Opening Scripture
“This is the day the LORD has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
God Is Here Today
Most days do not feel especially important.
We wake up.
Make coffee.
Check the weather.
Answer messages.
Go to work.
Take care of people.
Run errands.
Prepare meals.
Finish chores.
Go to bed.
Then another day begins.
Because so much of life is repetitive, we can start believing that the ordinary parts do not matter very much.
We wait for the meaningful moment.
The answer.
The opportunity.
The trip.
The celebration.
The breakthrough.
But Psalm 118:24 gives us a simpler invitation:
“This is the day the LORD has made.”
Not only the extraordinary day.
Not only the day when everything works out.
Not only the day we will remember for years.
This day.
God is here today.
Ordinary Does Not Mean Empty
A day can be ordinary without being meaningless.
There may be no major decision to make.
No dramatic answer to prayer.
No unexpected opportunity.
Nothing particularly exciting to tell anyone about.
Still, the day can contain gifts.
A conversation.
Useful work.
A meal.
A familiar voice.
A chance to help someone.
A moment of laughter.
A few minutes of quiet.
Strength for a responsibility.
Patience where you once might have reacted differently.
These moments rarely announce themselves as spiritually important.
But they are still part of the life God has given us.
We Can Miss God While Looking for Something Bigger
Sometimes we imagine God’s presence primarily through remarkable experiences.
A powerful worship service.
An unmistakable answer.
A dramatic change.
A moment when we suddenly understand what He is doing.
Those experiences matter.
But if we only look for God in the extraordinary, we may overlook Him in most of our lives.
God can meet us while we wash dishes.
During the drive to work.
While helping a child with something small.
In the middle of an ordinary conversation.
Through a quiet conviction to call someone.
In the patience required to finish an unremarkable task well.
Faith does not always remove us from ordinary life.
Very often, faith teaches us how to see ordinary life differently.
This Day Is Not a Placeholder
It is easy to treat today like a waiting room.
We tell ourselves that real life will begin when something changes.
When the schedule becomes easier.
When the decision is made.
When the children are older.
When the work improves.
When the prayer is answered.
When the next season arrives.
But this day is part of your life too.
The people in it matter.
The work in it matters.
The choices in it matter.
The opportunities to love, encourage, listen, forgive, and serve matter.
Last week we closed our fresh-start journey by learning to trust God with the next step even when we cannot see the whole road.
That same trust allows us to stop living several steps ahead and pay attention to where God has placed us now.
Look for God in What Is Already Here
Perhaps today will not become a memorable day.
That is all right.
You do not need a dramatic story to experience God’s goodness.
Look at what is already here.
Who is part of your day?
What responsibility is yours to carry faithfully?
What good thing have you stopped noticing because it has become familiar?
Where might someone need patience, kindness, or encouragement?
What can you thank God for before asking Him for something more?
The answers may seem small.
That does not make them unimportant.
Sometimes recognizing God’s presence begins by paying attention to the life we already have.
Receive the Day
Psalm 118 does not say:
“This is the day the LORD has made, so everything in it will be easy.”
Some ordinary days are tiring.
Some contain disappointment.
Some feel lonely.
Some responsibilities are difficult.
But even then, the day is not outside God’s presence.
We can bring Him what is hard.
Receive what is good.
Do what is ours to do.
And remain open to the quiet ways He may meet us.
As Week Ten begins, try not to rush past this day while waiting for a better one.
Notice it.
Live it.
Receive it.
And remember:
God is here today.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the day You have placed before me.
Forgive me for the times I overlook ordinary blessings because I am waiting for something more exciting, easier, or more impressive.
Help me notice Your presence in familiar places and everyday responsibilities.
Give me eyes to see the people around me, gratitude for the good I have become accustomed to, and faithfulness in the work that belongs to me today.
When the day feels ordinary, remind me that ordinary does not mean empty.
Teach me to rejoice in the life You have given me now.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May God open your eyes to His presence in familiar places.
May ordinary moments become opportunities for gratitude, ordinary responsibilities become places of faithfulness, and this day remind you that God’s grace is not limited to extraordinary experiences.
