Opening Scripture
“But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
Patience While Waiting Is an Act of Trus
Waiting sounds passive.
Often it is anything but.
Waiting can require enormous strength.
You may be waiting for an answer.
Waiting for circumstances to change.
Waiting for someone else to make a decision.
Waiting for healing in a relationship.
Waiting for an opportunity.
Waiting to understand what comes next.
The difficult part is not always the waiting itself.
It is living faithfully while you wait.
Isaiah 40:31 offers encouragement for exactly that kind of season.
Those who wait on the Lord are not forgotten.
God renews their strength.
Learning patience while waiting does not mean we stop caring about the outcome. It means we learn to trust God while the outcome remains beyond our control.
Waiting Can Make Us Want to Force an Answer
Uncertainty is uncomfortable.
When we cannot see what is happening, we naturally want to do something.
Sometimes there is something useful to do.
Make the call.
Submit the application.
Have the conversation.
Ask the question.
Take the responsible next step.
But sometimes we have already done what we can.
That is when waiting becomes difficult.
We begin looking for ways to manufacture movement simply because stillness feels unbearable.
We may make a premature decision.
Push someone for an answer they are not ready to give.
Assume silence means rejection.
Or choose any direction simply because having no direction feels worse.
Patience asks a different question:
Have I done what is mine to do today?
If the answer is yes, perhaps the next faithful action is to wait.
Waiting Is Not Wasted Time
A waiting season can feel like an interruption to real life.
We tell ourselves that life will begin again when the answer comes.
But life is still happening now.
There are people to love.
Responsibilities to fulfill.
Ordinary joys to notice.
Lessons to learn.
Good work to do.
Yesterday we reflected on receiving grace for today rather than carrying tomorrow before it arrives.
That grace matters especially when we are waiting.
God does not ask us to suspend our lives until uncertainty disappears.
He gives us grace to live faithfully inside the uncertainty.
Patience Does Not Require Pretending
There may be days when you handle waiting peacefully.
There may be other days when frustration rises again.
That does not mean you have failed.
You can tell God:
“Lord, I am tired of waiting.”
“I do not understand why this is taking so long.”
“I am afraid of what the answer may be.”
“I wish You would show me what happens next.”
Biblical trust does not require pretending we have no questions.
The Psalms are filled with people bringing honest questions to God.
Faith is not the absence of frustration.
Faith is continuing to bring that frustration to the One we trust.
Ask for Strength for the In Between
Isaiah does not say those who wait will never become tired.
It says their strength will be renewed.
That means waiting may require renewal more than once.
Perhaps that is the prayer for today.
Not:
“Lord, show me everything.”
But:
“Lord, give me enough strength to remain faithful while I wait.”
Give me patience for today.
Give me wisdom not to force what needs time.
Give me courage to act when action is required.
Give me peace when there is nothing more I can do.
Give me eyes to see the life that is still happening around me.
That is a prayer God can meet in the middle of an unfinished story.
You Can Live Before the Answer Comes
There is something freeing about realizing that your peace does not have to wait for the answer.
You can laugh before the situation is resolved.
You can enjoy dinner with people you love.
You can notice a beautiful morning.
You can do meaningful work.
You can rest.
You can worship.
You can be grateful.
None of that means the thing you are waiting for no longer matters.
It simply means uncertainty does not receive ownership of your entire life.
Trust God With What Has Not Happened Yet
Perhaps today you are standing between a prayer and its answer.
Between one season and another.
Between what you know and what you wish you knew.
You cannot rush across every in-between place.
But you do not walk through it alone.
Ask God for patience while waiting.
Do what is yours to do.
Release what is not.
And trust that the God who gives strength for today will still be God when the answer finally comes.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
You know what I am waiting for.
You know how long I have carried this question and how much I wish I could see what comes next.
Give me patience while I wait.
Keep me from forcing answers simply because uncertainty makes me uncomfortable.
Give me wisdom to recognize what is mine to do and faith to release what is beyond my control.
When waiting makes me tired, renew my strength.
When frustration returns, help me bring it honestly to You.
Do not let me miss the life, people, blessings, and responsibilities You have placed around me today because I am focused only on what has not happened yet.
Teach me to trust You in the in-between.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
