Opening Scripture
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.”
Trust God With Your Next Step
Fresh starts would feel easier if they came with instructions.
We would like to know which decision will work.
How long the transition will take.
Whether the relationship will heal.
Whether the opportunity will succeed.
Whether we will have enough.
Whether we are choosing the right road.
We want reassurance before we move.
But Proverbs gives us something different.
Trust.
“Lean not on your own understanding.”
Those words acknowledge something we sometimes resist admitting:
We will not always understand what God is doing while we are living through it.
Sometimes the path becomes clear only after we have walked part of it.
That is why learning to trust God with your next step matters so much.
You do not need every answer before you begin.
Understanding Is Helpful, but It Is Not Required
There is nothing wrong with planning.
Wisdom considers consequences.
We gather information, seek counsel, pray, and make thoughtful decisions.
But eventually planning reaches its limit.
There are questions we simply cannot answer in advance.
What will happen six months from now?
How will another person respond?
Will this opportunity lead where I hope?
Will I feel differently after taking the step?
Faith does not mean ignoring wisdom.
It means recognizing that wisdom cannot eliminate every uncertainty.
At some point, we place what we know and what we do not know into God’s hands.
Then we move faithfully with what He has given us today.
Direction Often Comes While We Are Moving
We sometimes imagine God’s direction as receiving a complete map.
More often, it feels like enough guidance for the next portion of the road.
A conversation becomes necessary.
An opportunity appears.
A conviction becomes difficult to ignore.
A door closes.
A responsibility becomes clear.
You take one step, and then the next decision becomes easier to see.
That can feel uncomfortable when we want certainty.
But perhaps you do not need to see the whole road.
Perhaps you need enough light for today’s part of it.
Yesterday we reflected on why small beginnings still matter.
A small beginning becomes even more meaningful when we realize that one faithful step may be all we are being asked to take today.
Instead of demanding certainty about the destination, ask:
What is the next faithful thing I know to do?
Then do that.
You Can Change Direction
Another reason we hesitate is fear of making the wrong choice.
We imagine every decision as permanent.
Many are not.
Sometimes we begin and discover that something needs adjusting.
We learn.
We pray.
We receive new information.
We recognize that another path is wiser.
Changing direction is not automatically failure.
Sometimes it is evidence that we are paying attention.
God can guide a willing heart through adjustments just as surely as He can guide us through the original decision.
You do not need to predict every turn before taking the first step.
Let Tomorrow Remain With God
A fresh start asks us to release two things at once.
Yesterday, because we cannot change it.
Tomorrow, because we cannot control it.
That leaves today.
Today you can pray.
Today you can forgive.
Today you can make the call.
Today you can begin the habit.
Today you can ask for help.
Today you can take the small step.
Today you can trust.
That has been the heart of Week Nine.
We began with the assurance that God is not finished with your story.
We discovered that you can begin again from where you are.
We remembered that yesterday does not define today.
We prayed for courage.
We considered what trying again can mean in relationships.
We honored small beginnings.
And now we arrive here:
You still may not know exactly where the new beginning leads.
That is all right.
You were never asked to know everything.
You were invited to trust the One who does.
So bring God your plans.
Bring Him your questions.
Bring Him your uncertainty.
Use the wisdom He has given you.
Seek good counsel when you need it.
Then trust God with your next step.
The whole road does not have to be visible for the next step to be faithful.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for walking with me into places I cannot fully understand.
I confess that I often want certainty before I am willing to move.
Give me wisdom for the decisions that belong to me and trust for the things I cannot know yet.
Keep me from leaning entirely on my own understanding.
Help me acknowledge You in the plans I make, the choices I face, and the steps I take.
When I become overwhelmed by tomorrow, bring my attention back to what You have placed before me today.
Direct my path, correct me when necessary, and give me peace as I follow You one faithful step at a time.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

May He direct your path, steady your heart, and remind you that you do not need to see the whole road to faithfully take the next step.
You do not have to have it all figured out.
